The spring/summer 2018 women's wear collection by TOME is crisp, fresh and extremely wearable. I had an opportunity to review this American brand when it was presented during fashion week. For spring/summer 2018, the look features designs with bold solids and stripes in primary colors, white linens, precision knife pleat dresses with feminine fluidity, striped tie front oxford shirts; what looks like seersucker plaid sarong skirts and other fashion separates. It was refreshing to see a line that's created to appeal to a diverse spectrum of consumer sizes and demographics. This was also reflected on the runway in the TOME fashion show. I see the TOME line being a fan favorite at roof top soirees, Hampton outings, luncheons at your favorite winery or summer tea at Bergdorf's. New York based TOME is in it's sixth year operation and is distributed worldwide. The brand's design aethestic is based upon the collaborative efforts of seasoned CFDA designers Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo, who met while studying fashion at the University of Technology Sydney. The professionals describe the brand as "practical and straightforward - clear cut, essential dressing." That it is.
Romantic florals continue to be an important fashion statement in spring/summer 2018 runway collections. A cavalcade of designers such as Jason Wu, Jill Stuart and Custo Barcelona add a fresh stroke of whimsy to tried and true florals. Flowing diaphanous fabrics, soft sorbet pastels and interesting sleeve details are combined to bring forth a slightly new play on what many consider to be a basic look. The look is fun and inherently female. Enjoy being a girl for spring/summer 2018.
70's fashions sparked women's coming of age
Everything old is new again. Take for instance retro 70's looks, which have become all the rage. Perhaps the trend's onset started with the viral use of the happy face as an imoji. At one time the iconic happy face became one of the popular symbols of the 70's era. But seriously folks, retro 70's looks are so special because they tend to be worn with certain level of bravado. The 70's sparked a coming-of-age when women were finally "finding" themselves and owning their confidence. Away went the perfectly coifed hairdo's, pill box hats and demure, constructed suits and in came the boho revolution - with a vengeance. The worlds of fashion and beauty suddenly did an about face converting to barely-there makeup, straight, simple hair parted down the middle partnered with dramatic fashions and accessories like oversized sunglasses, huge floppy chapeaus, crocheted knits, fringe and of course the quintessential elephant bell bottom pant.
Pulling off a modern day 70's retro look
While today's retro 70's looks are a more subtle throwback of the era gone by, the trend looks amazingly fresh at the moment. The key to wearing this style is to integrate striking touches of the 70's trend into current fashion looks. Hence SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker) herself shows us all how it is done since she was named the new face of Jordache Jeans earlier this year. The key to the modern day success of the look comes by Integrating touches of trend right aspects like flared jeans, fringed accessories, wide brims and lively prints or patterns with more current looks like moto jackets and biker boots. The Retro 70's trend is definitely not an everyday look. I find it is totally great for weekend wear or outings where you want to stand out in the crowd. For fall, pair a simple black turtleneck, fun ankle boots, dark denim jeans, feather accessories along with fringe and suede anything. Now that's a look I want to know better.
As we careen towards festive social gatherings with friends, relatives and special someones, the focus will be on holiday hair. Soft wispy up do's, tousled French braids and classic chignons add a touch of naughty and nice to any occasion.
